CRUCIFIXION
Crucifixions are one of the most widely represented images in the Western civilisation. Observing and comparing its different depictions throughout time is a way to keep track of the developments in human perception and to understand that the difference among styles is the path followed by mankind towards truth and divinity. Changes of style should be sought fundamentally in the transformations of vision. Here our interest lies in how our vision perceives the human body – whether it is the sacred bodies of Christ and the saints or those more mundane ones of crucified thieves and other characters.
